Week 20 -- Spend more time with nature

A major scientific discovery on Douglas Drive.
A funny thing happened one day when we were walking in the woods behind our house. We came across what looked like bones of a dead -- wait a minute. That wasn't Cheryl and me. It was Brando, Jordan and their friend, Nick O.!! But, with Christmas this past week, we will turn this "retirement adventure" over to them. The boys were walking in the woods behind our house one day and several hundred feet south of our lot, they came across some bones half buried in the ground.
They came back to our house, got a spade and a tiny shovel off our back porch and dug up the bones. They found a skull and a rib cage and part of the spinal column of what must be a deer. It is not unusual to have deer behind our house. We have quite a few (live) deer on our street. When we go for walks or just look out the back window, we often see deer. But this was a unique sight. got some long sticks to pick up the bones and carried them back to our house.                                        The bones still had some dirt and, maybe, flesh on the bones so the boys got our wheel barrow off the back porch, put the bones in the wheel barrow, got several buckets full of water and dumped the water over the bones to let them soak!!  The next day, Cheryl and I picked up the shovels, rinsed them with the hose, took out the bones and let them dry on the pavement near our shed, then cleaned out the wheel barow. All top scientists have assistants, you know. The boys plan to make some money off their discovery, thinking there will be a scientist who would like these bones for some research!
